New Book Explores How Science Can Drive Real-World Change
The new book by Environmental Studies and Science Associate Professor Anne H. Toomey, PhD, Science with Impact: How to Engage People, Change Practice, and Influence Policy (Island Press, 2024), was officially released on December 3, 2024.
The book offers guidance for researchers and practitioners looking to connect their work with broader societal needs, from community engagement to influencing policy. Grounded in real-world examples, Science with Impact explores practical strategies for making research more accessible and actionable. The book has already sparked interest across media platforms, including NPR, Talk Nerdy with Cara Santa Maria, Ecotopia, Land and Climate Change News, and The Biologist. In recognition of its contribution to fostering effective communication and collaboration, the book received a Silver Award in the 2025 Nautilus Book Awards in the Relationships and Communication category.
